The Center for Rural Outreach and Public Services, Inc. (CROPS) has developed the following programs to promote collaboration among diverse groups, empower underserved people to solve problems, involve youth in finding solutions, and develop future leaders for rural communities.
Growing Rural – Youth Led Rural Development
Growing Rural is an innovative program designed to create rural leaders for tomorrow. Growing Rural uses service-learning activities that link youth to activities that build skills in critical thinking and problem-solving, collaboration, innovation, character development, leadership, employment preparation, and youth philanthropy. The Growing Rural program builds on an agricultural theme that includes six simple steps.
Art of the Dollar – Turn Your Words into Money
Art of the Dollar - Turn Your Words into Money is an outgrowth of Growing Rural to help generate funding for youth led service learning projects. The program teaches teenagers how to find, write and win grants though onsite workshops, train the trainer courses, and online training. Growing Rural youth participants have generated more than $30,000 in grants and scholarships over the past four years.
Health Network Center
The purpose of the Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Program (Network Planning) program is to expand access to, coordinate and improve the quality of essential health care services and enhance the delivery of health care, in rural areas. By helping rural providers develop formal integrated health care networks, the Network Planning program supports multiple HHS, HRSA, and ORHP goals and objectives, including improving the health care system, access to care, the continuity and quality of care, and the financial viability of health care providers in underserved areas.
